Kids can sail free on cruises in the Bahamas and the Mediterranean. Which cruise lines offer free cruises for kids?

Although most cruise lines feature discounted cruise rates for children or passengers in the third and fourth berths, few cruise lines offer free cruises. Here are a few options for free cruises for kids.

Disney Cruise Specials – Kids Sail Free

  • Kids Sail Free Restrictions – Disney Cruise Line extends its Kids Sail Free promotions to children 17 and under traveling with two full fare guests in the same stateroom. And, although the cruise rate is free, taxes, government fees and gratuities are still charged.

  • Kids Sail Free to Bahamas – Kids aged 17 and under cruise for free on most 3 and 4 night Bahamian itineraries between January 7 and April 15, 2010. Departing from Port Canaveral, 3 night cruises include a day in Nassau and then a day on Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay. (4-night cruises include an extra day at sea). When booking the cruise online through Disney’s website, indicate booking code, KFO, at time of booking.

  • Kids Sail Free to Mediterranean – Kids aged 17 and under cruise for free on select 10-night or 11-night Mediterranean cruises between April 24 and May 26, 2010. Departing from Barcelona, Spain, enjoy the ports in Malta, Corsica, Civitavecchia (Rome), La Spezia (Florence), Naples (Pompeii) and Villefranche (Monte Carlo), just to name a few. The Disney Magic departs Port Canaveral on April 10, 2010 for her repositioning cruise, arriving in Barcelona on April 24.

Other Cruise Lines Where Kids Cruise Free

Kids Cruise Free with MSC Cruises – With MSC Cruises, kids 17 and under always cruise for free when traveling with two adults in the same stateroom. The cruise line does impose a capacity controlled restriction meaning that they only allow a certain amount of children on each of their cruises. Although the cruise rate is free, still expect to pay taxes, fuel surcharges, port charges and tips for each child.

Kids Sail Free with Costa Cruise Line – On select 2009 7-night Caribbean cruises, kids sail free when traveling with two adults in the same stateroom. Adult rates for those cruises start from $499 per person. And, during Christmas, New Years and President Week sailings, kids sail from $199 per child. Fares do not include taxes, government fees, port charges, and gratuities.

Kids Sail Free with Celebration Cruise Line – Kids aged 15 and under cruise for free when traveling with two full fare adults in the same stateroom. This promotion is not offered when adults are taking advantage of discounted rates that can be as low as $99 per person for a three-day Bahamian cruise. Celebration Cruise Line offers two or three night cruises departing Fort Lauderdale to Nassau, Bahamas, throughout the year.

Passengers should also weigh the costs between kids sail free promotions versus large family suites that can accommodate more than four persons. For example Royal Caribbean’s Presidential Suites can sleep up to 14 persons, which may equate to a lower overall cruise vacation cost.
