Starting in May 2011, Disney Cruise Line will offer cruises to Alaska out of the embarkation port of Vancouver. This will be Disney Cruise Line’s first summer in Alaska and the recently refurbished Disney Wonder will be the cruise ship that will take passengers there. Disney’s Alaska Cruises from VancouverThe Disney Wonder will offer its first Alaska cruise from Vancouver departing on Tuesday, May 3, 2011. Along with a wide selection of pre- and post-cruise hotels, Vancouver has lots of attractions for families. Visit the Beluga whales at the Vancouver Aquarium. Take the miniature train through Stanley Park. Wander through Granville Island’s Kid’s Market or hop on a mini-ferry to explore Science World. Alaska Cruises on Disney WonderFrom May through September 2011, the Disney Wonder will cruise to Alaska for a total of 18 seven-night cruises. All seven-night cruises will depart from Vancouver on Tuesdays and include the ports of Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan and two days at sea. There will also be a day of cruising through Tracy Arm Fjord, known for its spectacular glaciers. There is a variety of shore excursions for families in Alaska’s ports of call. The littlest cruisers will enjoy The Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show in Ketchikan, the Sled Dog Camp in Skagway and Gold Panning in Juneau. Teens may prefer the high-adrenaline adventure tours such as zip-lining, mountain biking or glacier trekking. Repositioning Cruises with Disney Cruise LinePrior to the first Alaska cruise on the Disney Wonder, the ship will offer a six-night repositioning cruise from Los Angeles to Vancouver, departing April 27, 2011. The cruise will include two days in San Francisco, a day in Victoria, Canada and two days at sea. The Disney Wonder concludes the summer Alaska season, disembarking her last passengers on September 20, 2011. A five-night repositioning cruise departs Vancouver on September 20th bound for Los Angeles. The ports will include stops in Victoria, Canada and Ensenada, Mexico as well as two days at sea. The cruise ends in San Pedro (Los Angeles) on September 25th, the same day that the Mexican Riviera cruises resume. On a side note, the Disney Wonder has recently undergone some changes during its dry dock in October 2009. According to the Disney Parks' blog, the Outlook Cafe was added on deck 10 and the 65-seat lounge features floor-to-ceiling windows. “Outlook Cafe will become the perfect place to take in the breathtaking vistas and natural wonders of Alaska,” said Jonathan Frontado, Public Relations Manager for Disney Cruise.
