Carnival Cruises and Royal Caribbean offer four and five day or one week cruises to the Western Caribbean and Mexico from the Port of Galveston, Texas.

Think you have to sail out of Miami or Fort Lauderdale to cruise the Caribbean? Think again. Carnival Cruise Lines and Royal Caribbean offer four and five day or one week cruises to the Western Caribbean from the port of Galveston, just an hour and a half away from Houston, Texas.

Galveston Port is located off the upper Texas coast at the mouth of Galveston Bay. The town is a trendy seaside resort offering 32 miles of relaxing beaches, numerous antique stores and good downtown shopping. It’s an ideal spot to spend one or two days pre-or- post cruise.

Carnival Cruise Lines

Carnival has two vessels, Ecstasy and Conquest who call the Galveston port home all year-round.

Carnival Ecstasy

This ship offers four or five night cruises to ports along the Mexican coast. Five day trips visit the ports of Yucatan, (Progeso) Mexico and Cozumel, Mexico. The four day cruises only visit Cozumel. Both itineraries are offered year round.

Carnival Conquest

This ship sails on one week cruises to the Western and Eastern Caribbean. West Caribbean trips visit the ports of Montego Bay, Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands and Cozumel, Mexico. Eastern Caribbean itineraries visit Key West, Florida, Freeport, Bahamas, and Nassau, Bahamas. Both trips are offered year round.

Royal Caribbean

Royal Caribbean’s Voyageur of the Seas sails out of Galveston to the Western Caribbean from December to April. The rest of the year, this ship is in Europe cruising around the Mediterranean Sea. This ship offers two seven night West Caribbean itineraries to choose from. The two routes are differentiated by the different ports visited:

Route 1 ports: Cozumel, Mexico, Roatan, Honduras, Costa Maya, Mexico and Yucatan (Progreso), Mexico

Route 2 ports: Cozumel, Mexico, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands and Montego Bay, Jamaica

How to Get There

Located southeast of Houston, the port of Galveston is approximately 70 miles from Bush Intercontinental Airport and 40 miles from William P. Hobby Airport. The journey takes approximately one and half hours from either airport.

Cruise lines usually offer shuttle bus service between the airports and Galveston as part of the air/sea package. There are also private shuttle buses which make frequent trips from both airports to the cruise terminal in Galveston. Alternatively, you can take a taxi or rent a car. The major car rental agencies located in both Houston airports have locations in Galveston for returning the rental.
